Friday 2 October, Berlin, Germany – The globally recognised contemporary artist Werner Bronkhorst opens HIGH: his debut solo exhibition in Berlin, running from Friday 2nd October to Sunday 4th October at Atrium Tower in Potsdamer Platz.

Open and free to visit to all, the exhibition marks the first time to see Bronkhorst’s work in Germany and will feature over 30 never-before-seen artworks inspired by the energy, excitement and exhilaration of the sky. Across varying scales, textures and colour palettes, Bronkhorst invites all into a journey upward, into the clouds above.

Select original works from the collection, alongside limited edition canvas art prints, will be available to purchase from Bronkhorst’s website on 4th October at 7pm CEST, while a limited-edition merchandise range, specially designed for HIGH, will be on sale within the exhibition space itself.

Based in Sydney, Bronkhorst has amassed an international following for his vibrant, hyper-realistic paintings that showcase miniature figures within layers of paint. Representing a new era of contemporary artists, his popularity has seen him interest across art, automotive, sport, and music, including bespoke collaborations with Formula One driver Lando Norris, award-winning producer Martin Garrix and more. This July, the artist debuted at auction with PHILLIPS with resounding success.

HIGH transports visitors into an airport-inspired exhibition space, providing a gateway into Bronkhorst’s creative practice. Each work depicts endless expanses of open skies and all the limitless possibilities that can be encountered, from tiny planes crossing distant horizons to hot air balloons drifting above and skydivers sailing through open air.

At the heart of the exhibition stands two large-scale canvases, including Come Up For Air, a multicolored canvas featuring 25 different hot air balloons painted in the finest of detail, floating peacefully over a sunset backdrop compiled from over 25 litres of Werner’s signature thick paint. The other, titled Airlines, presents a scene of planes flying overhead - contrails dotting the sky - nodding to recent airlines Bronkhorst has travelled on personally.

Throughout the collection, visitors will detect references to a myriad of creative and cultural inspirations; from Mark Rothko, The Beatles, the iconic Porsche 911 design, and the classic child’s tale, Le Petit Prince, within an artwork commissioned by luxury watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen.

Also on display is a variety of smaller works that Bronkhorst created while on his overseas travels this year, choosing to paint regardless of plane turbulence or turning his hotel room into an overnight studio.

Werner Bronkhorst said: “The whole world is a canvas, and this collection explores the world above us, encouraging viewers to stop and look up at our vast skies and its ever changing series of colours, clouds and possibilities. A journey through this exhibition and collection is bound to make you feel calm. It is with delight that I debut my largest collection to date in Berlin, a city that embodies creative expression and freedom”.

Bronkhorst brings HIGH to Germany, where he maintains his largest collector base in Europe, and forms part of his focus on international exhibitions this year. Earlier this year, Bronkhorst debuted in Dubai and Los Angeles respectively with his sold-out collection CRACK and World Cup-inspired BIG BALLS, both of which reflect the artist’s playful subversion that informs his creative output.

Werner Bronkhort’s HIGH exhibition is proudly supported by Porsche Deutschland & IWC Schaffhausen.
